MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine government on Tuesday expressed its sympathies and support to Americans and Filipino-American communities in the United States now being affected by hurricane “Sandy.”
“As Hurricane Sandy batters the Eastern Seaboard of the United States, we extend our sympathies and support to all those affected by this calamity,” deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said during a regular press briefing in Malacañang.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of those who are facing these difficult times, among them the Filipino-American community,” Valte said.
The Aquino administration, she said, is confident that the American people, especially the Filipino-American communities, would surpass “the catastrophe through prayers and faith in Divine Providence.”
“The devastation caused by the storm continues to unfold, but we are confident that the resolve of the American people to overcome this catastrophe remains steadfast, strong, and unbending,” Valte added.
Reports said millions of people have been affected by the hurricane , which was considered one of the biggest storms that ever hit the United States.
The Philippine embassy said though that no Filipinos in the US have been affected so far by the
calamity as of early Tuesday.
