MANILA, Philippines—An American and a Singaporean on a boating holiday were rescued by the Philippine Navy after their yacht was damaged by large waves, the navy said Saturday.

The vessel, Fly Ruben Fly, was travelling from Kudat in Borneo to the western Philippine island of Palawan when it was spotted in distress Friday, prompting a navy boat to go to their aid.

The pair were rescued from their yacht which had run aground and was half submerged near Palawan, the navy said in a statement.
