Emma Benitez Valeriano dies in US; 90

MANILA, Philippines—Emma Benitez Valeriano died in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Tuesday at 6:14 pm. She would have been 90 years old on Nov. 3. She died of natural causes.

She is survived by her children Patricia, Gregorio and Elvira Araneta; Napoleon, Francisco and Jorge Valeriano; daughters in-law Irene Marcos Araneta Rose Aquino Valeriano and Pia Villanueva Valeriano, 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandsons.


Mrs. Valeriano had been a long-time resident in Maryland before she moved to Honolulu 18 months ago to be with her youngest son, Jorge, and his family.

She is remembered by many for various social involvements in the Philippines and in the US, particularly for fostering understanding between the Philippines and the United States.
