Cebu school probes death of 2 students in Bataan
CEBU CITY, Philippines—The Cebu International School (CIS) is investigating the accident during a field trip in Morong, Bataan, that resulted in the death of two students, including the grandson of former Cebu Rep. Jose Gullas.
Mariano Osmeña, member of the CIS board of trustees, said he could not give more details on the investigation since the board’s meeting would be held on Tuesday next week.
“What I can confirm is that the school hired a lawyer to interview all the parties involved,” said Osmeña.
Jaebak Jung, 14, a Korean, and Kyle Julian Weckman, 13, a grandson of Gullas, drowned during a school outing in Morong, Bataan, on Wednesday.
The two CIS students were part of a group of 47 students and five teachers of CIS doing community service in Bataan since September 11.
Education Secretary Armin Luistro has ordered the regional Department of Education office to also investigate the accident.
