MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Monday said that the country’s consulate in Dubai had offered repatriation and consular assistance to the family of slain businesswoman Lorna Varona.
Local media had reported that on August 31, authorities in Dubai discovered the stabbed body of Varona placed in the trunk of her own car. It had been reported that the vehicle was abandoned in Sharjah.
Reports also had it that the suspect, Erick de Chavez, who was Varona’s close friend, had confessed to the killing and was now under police custody.
The family of Varona had also said that Chavez owed Varona 250,000 dirhams or more than P3.5 million.
DFA spokesperson Raul Hernandez, in an interview, also said that the DFA was also prepared to provide legal aid for the suspect.
