MANILA, Philippines—The Singapore Red Cross (SRC) will contribute S$100,000 worth of relief supplies to survivors of the floods in Manila. The supplies consisting of canned and fresh foods, kitchen utensils and toiletries will be distributed by SRC volunteers on Monday to those in evacuation centers.
“We have been in close contact with our sister national society, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), since the onset of the crisis,” said Benjamin William, SRC secretary general, noting that more than 200,000 people in Metro Manila and parts of Luzon have been evacuated by the PRC.
“The emergency relief supplies, from funds raised by the people of Singapore, will directly benefit these communities. The Singapore Red Cross is committed to help the Philippine Red Cross in this massive relief operation,” William said.
“The SRC will continue to monitor the situation. At this stage, the SRC is not launching a public appeal but will continue to accept walk-in donations for ongoing relief efforts by its sister national society,” he added.
Check donations can be sent to the SRC at 15 Penang Lane, Singapore 238486. Please include your name, contact details and “Manila Floods 2012” at the back of the check.
