MANILA, Philippines — The United States government offered up to $100,000 (P4.3 million) in assistance to the Philippines to support disaster relief operations amid monsoon floods around Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
In a statement issued Tuesday night, US Ambassador to the Philippines Harry Thomas Jr. extended the American people’s sympathy to the Philippines as thousands were displaced by flooding followed by relentless rains in the past few days.
“On behalf of the US government and the American people, I extend my heartfelt sympathies to those who are displaced and who have lost homes and livelihoods due to the floods,” Thomas said in a statement.
The US Embassy said its aid arm, the United States Agency for International Development, would assess damage in Metro Manila and adjacent provinces to determine priority areas for relief.
