Philippines should seek UN help in sea dispute with China
MANILA, Philippines—A legislator on Friday urged the Philippine government to seek the help of the United Nations in diffusing tensions in the West Philippine Sea.
Muntinlupa City Representative Rodolfo Biazon, in an interview aired on Radyo Inquirer 990AM, said that the Philippines should seek the assistance of the UN to raise awareness on the current situation in the disputed waters.
“Hindi ko sinasabing ngayon na. Pag tumaas ang tension to a dangerous level (I’m not saying we should do it now. Only when tensions escalate to a dangerous level),” Biazon said.
“They (152 country members of the UN) should be aware of the violation of China of the international law,” he added referring to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
