MANILA, Philippines — Immigration Commissioner Ricardo David Jr. has
reorganized its Interpol unit under the Intelligence Division to strengthen its capacity to run after foreign fugitives.
BI Executive Assistant Bernardo Cruzata II was named unit head, replacing lawyer Floro Balato Jr. who was assigned as immigration supervisor at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
The Interpol Unit will, however, remain under the direct supervision of lawyer Maria Antonette Bucasas-Mangrobang, the bureau’s acting intelligence chief.
David also assigned six more BI intelligence operatives to the Interpol unit to augment manpower and operational strength.
David said it was important to strengthen the BI Interpol Unit because
it establishes linkages and coordinates with other local and foreign law enforcement agencies.
