MANILA, Philippines—The Department of Foreign Affairs is hoping to have one million overseas absentee voting (OAV) registrants for the incoming 2O13 elections, its spokesman said Wednesday.

“As of today (Wednesday), we have an estimate total OAV registrants of 720,300,” Raul Hernandez  said in a text message to INQUIRER.net

Hernandez said the department was continuing with its information and registration campaigns and mobile registration programs at all foreign service posts.

Members of Filipino communities abroad have been asked to use social networking sites to “ensure widest participation of Filipinos overseas,” he said.

“The leaders and members of Filipino communities may use any appropriate social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and other means of communication to reach out to all Filipinos in their area,” Hernandez said.
