MANILA, Philippines—Vice President Jejomar Binay is leaving for Malaysia on Sunday on an official working visit. Afterward he will proceed to the United States to attend a housing finance conference and Philippine Independence Day celebrations.
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Binay will be the guest of honor and keynote speaker at the Philippines-Malaysia Investment Partnership Forum on May 29.
The Vice President is scheduled to meet with top Malaysian officials, namely, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, Minister of International Trade and Industry YB Dato’ Sri Mustapa Bin Mohamed and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dato’ Sri Anifah Aman to discuss ways to advance Philippine-Malaysian relations.
He will also meet with former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, the DFA said.
“I am confident that my visit to Malaysia will further strengthen the economic and diplomatic ties between our countries. It is an excellent opportunity to bring the good news about the Philippines to the leaders and ranking officials of Malaysia and to their business community,” Binay said.
While in Malaysia, the Vice President will attend the inauguration of the newly renovated Philippine Embassy. He will also hold meetings with the Scouts Association of Malaysia, Malaysia–Philippines Business Council and the Filipino community.
From Malaysia, Binay will fly to the United States where he has several official activities lined up from May 30 to June 4.
He is slated to be the closing speaker at the 5th Global Housing Finance Conference at World Bank headquarters in Washington, DC, and is expected to meet with World Bank Executive Director Rogerio Studart.
Binay, also the presidential adviser on overseas Filipino workers concerns, will dialogue with the Filipino community of Washington and meet with Ambassador Luis de Baca of the Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons at the US Department of State.
From Washington, the Vice President will fly to California where he will be the guest of honor and speaker at the 114th Philippine Independence Day celebration.
