2 Taiwanese held for drug possession at Manila airport
MANILA, Philippines—The Bureau of Immigration (BI) said Wednesday it had arrested two Taiwanese nationals caught carrying illegal drugs at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
Immigration Chief Ricardo David Jr. identified the Taiwanese nationals as Shen Wun Bing, 34, and Lan Mao Yang, 28. He said they were intercepted after arriving from Taipei aboard a China Airlines flight last April 26.
The two are now in the custody of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Administration (PDEA).
David said the two will undergo deportation proceedings for being undesirable aliens “after they are convicted of their crimes and have served the sentence that will be imposed by the court.”
Uso Dan Salasim, BI intelligence unit head at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport NAIA), reported that the two foreigners’ behavior became suspect after one of them, who had been cleared for entry, returned to retrieve the hand-carried bag of his companion who was then being interviewed by Immigration officers.
This prompted the BI personnel to seek the assistance of NAIA customs personnel who then opened the bag and discovered the tablets, which were tested and confirmed as illegal drugs by PDEA personnel.
