SAN FRANCISCO, California—Maria Elena “Peachy” Pelaez-Reyes, eldest daughter of former vice-president Emmanuel Pelaez and Edith Fabella, died on April 16. She was 65.
Pelaez-Reyes served as Philippine Director of Tourism in San Francisco, California from 1987 to 1999.
For her pioneering spirit in holding the first Filipino community event in San Francisco, the Philippine Islands Fair and Expo in 1988, the Philippine American Press Club honored her with the Torch Bearer Award in December 2011.
Peachy, as she is fondly called, is survived by her husband, Dr. Frank Reyes, children and grandchildren.
