DSWD gets rice donation from South Korea

The South Korean government on Wednesday turned over 1,632 metric tons of milled rice to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to augment its food packs for victims of calamities. The donation, made through the UN World Food Programme, is seen to boost the country’s emergency response capacity, South Korean Ambassador Lee Seong-ho said. Social Welfare Secretary Rex Gatchalian told reporters the donated milled rice would be enough to put together 280,000 family food packs, each containing six kilos of rice. —KATHLEEN DE VILLA
