Marcos returns from Asean Summit

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — President Marcos has departed this city to return to the Philippines after a productive two-day engagement at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Summit.
The President, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and their delegation departed KLIA at 12 am Wednesday to fly back to Manila aboard Philippine Airlines flight PR 001.
PR 001 is expected to land in Manila at past 3 am Wednesday.
During the Asean Summits, Marcos actively pushed anew for the finalization of a legally-binding code of conduct to prevent the escalation of conflict in the disputed South China Sea.
He also urged developed nations to contribute to the Loss and Damage Fund that will aid poor nations mitigate the impact of climate change.

The President also expressed grave concern over the worsening humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and the continued conflict between Israel and Hamas militants.
During the Asean Summit, the Philippines got a commitment for a $400 million loan from the Asian Development Bank for development projects in Mindanao and Palawan, which Marcos said will have a downstream effect once implemented.
He also discussed the impact of the United States’ new tariff policy with his fellow Asean leaders, among many other issues and challenges of mutual concern. /cb
