MANILA, Philippines — Robert Francis Cardinal Prevost, now Pope Leo XIV, had already visited the Philippines back in 2004.

Based on a Facebook post from the provincial government of Santo Niño de Cebu, it was Pope Leo XIV who blessed the Augustinian religious community’s friary in Barangay Mohon, Talisay City, Cebu, on January 31, 2004.
Back then, Pope Leo XIV was still the Prior General of the Order of Saint Augustine.

Prevost was elected pope after cardinals from around the world picked him as the 267th Supreme Pontiff of the Catholic Church.

He succeeded Pope Francis, who died on April 21 due to complications of a stroke, according to the Vatican. He was 88 years old.
