Marijuana worth P101 million seized in Manila port

MANILA, Philippines — Dried marijuana leaves valued at P101.04 million were found at the Manila International Container Port (MICP) in Tondo on Tuesday morning, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said.
In a statement, the PDEA detailed that the drugs were found in five balikbayan boxes said to be from Thailand.
The drugs were packaged in 138 heat-sealed transparent plastic bags weighing 72.178 kilograms, the agency further explained.
“The shipper and receiver involved are subject to investigation. Once proven, appropriate charges will be filed in violation of [Republic Act] 9165 (Dangerous Drugs Act),” the PDEA said.

The agency further said the drugs seized will be submitted to the PDEA Laboratory Service for examination.
