MANILA, Philippines — Adelyn Bulaclac, 39, had been jumping from job to job hundreds of kilometers away in Taiwan, most recently working at an electronics factory.

Seeking a better life for her two children drove her to take a leap of faith abroad, but it had kept her away from home for the last eight years.

But, this Easter — a season of beginnings — marks a new chapter in her and her family’s life.

FEATURED STORIES

Bulaclac returned to the Philippines on April 12, in time to see her 11-year-old daughter and her 17-year-old son graduate from elementary and senior high school, respectively.

Although still unsure of what to pursue, her son planned to study at the Batangas State University, joining his father, who works in that province, Bulaclac told INQUIRER.net.

They were a family of faith, maintaining an altar they pray to in their home in Gapan City, Nueva Ecija, she added.

When asked of her intentions this Easter season, she said, “Syempre, yung maabot ng mga anak ko yung mga pangarap nila, makapagtapos sila sa pag-aaral, saka yung kalusugan ng pamilya ko, saka yung lagi silang malayo sa kapamahakan.”

(Of course, that my children reach their dreams, that they finish their studies; the health of my family as well and that they’re far from harm.)

Over the holiday break, they planned to return to Gapan and enjoy themselves at a resort.

“Masarap sa pakiramdam kasi nakita ko pamilya ko… Syempre, walang sasayanging oras makasama sila, maka-bonding,” Bulaclac said.

(It’s a good feeling because I saw my family again… Of course, I won’t waste any time to join them, bond with them.)

She will be returning to Taiwan as the break ends.

“Panibagong yugto ulit. Magco-college na yung panganay ko. Syempre, kailangang kumayod para matupad yung pangarap nila,” Bulaclac said.

(It’s a new chapter again. My eldest will be going to college. Of course, we need to work hard to make sure their dreams come true.)
