PNP chief Marbil mobilizing assets to stop Chinese kidnapping cases

MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Rommel Marbil said the law enforcement agency has mobilized its assets to prevent further kidnappings of Chinese individuals.

This came in a statement on Friday after the PNP met with the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII) following the killing of steel magnate Anson Que.

“We are deeply concerned, and we will not rest until these cases are solved. We are mobilizing all investigative assets and leveraging every capability to ensure these incidents do not recur,” Marbil said in the statement.

“We call for calm and unity. These isolated incidents do not define our nation. What defines us is our collective resolve to uphold the rule of law and protect all people living and doing business in the Philippines,” the PNP chief added.

Bodies recovered

PNP Spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo on Thursday confirmed that Que and his driver were the bodies recovered from a grassy area in Barangay Macabud, Rodriguez, Rizal.

Que was last seen on March 29 and reported missing on March 30.

Fajardo further said the police force was looking into the angle that the perpetrators were involved in previous kidnapping cases as well as Philippine offshore gaming operators (Pogos).

Filipino-Chinese civic leader Teresita Ang-See pointed out that Que’s case is the third incident of a Chinese individual being kidnapped in five weeks.

According to Ang-See, the other two were a 14-year-old Chinese student taken from his school in Taguig City, and a Chinese food kiosk owner in Manila.
