DFA: 4 Filipinos in quake-devastated Myanmar remain 'unaccounted'

MANILA, Philippines — While there are no reported Filipino casualties yet in the Myanmar earthquake, Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Eduardo de Vega said four remain unaccounted as of Sunday.

“Four unaccounted for in Mandalay, near epicenter, where there are 151 overseas Filipinos registered,” de Vega told INQUIRER.net in a text message.

“No confirmed casualties yet,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Embassy in Myanmar (Yangon) said in an advisory that they are preparing to deploy a team to Mandalay for an on-the-ground assessment of the status of Filipinos in the area.

“Arrangements are also being made to mobilize and distribute essential supplies and basic necessities to those in need, including possible evacuation routes for relocation or repatriation,” the advisory added.

It also advised Filipinos in Myanmar to remain vigilant for possible aftershocks and continuously communicate with fellow Filipinos to ensure each other’s safety.

“For emergencies, the Embassy can be reached through the Assistance-to-Nationals (ATN) hotline (+95 998 521 0991) or the official Philippine Embassy in Myanmar Facebook Messenger,” the embassy added.
