MANILA, Philippines — The days of Filipinos spreading fake news from abroad are numbered, as the Palace on Thursday backed the plan of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to team up with the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) to track them down.
At a briefing on Thursday, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro expressed support for the initiative.

“Dapat noon pa po. Dumadami na po ang mga fake news vloggers at dapat noon pa po nasimulan ito, kaya maraming salamat sa NBI,” she said.
(This should have been done earlier. The number of fake news vloggers has been growing, and this should have started long ago. So, thank you very much to the NBI.)
Last March 21, several online vloggers appeared before a House of Representatives hearing looking into the spread of misinformation and disinformation over social media.
The hearing is headed by a tri-committee composed of the House committee on public order and safety, the committee on public information, and the committee on information and communication technology.
The panels have been tasked to probe the spread of disinformation online.
The Palace’s support of NBI’s plan to team up with Interpol is part of its commitment to ending the spread of deceptive content online.
