PNP vows cooperation in Senate probe into Duterte’s arrest

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) is ready to cooperate with any investigation into former President Rodrigo Duterte’s arrest, following Sen. Imee Marcos’ call for an urgent Senate probe on the matter.

PNP Public Information Office chief Col. Randulf Tuaño was asked about Marcos’ statement, in which she emphasized the need to determine whether due process was followed during Duterte’s arrest, given the involvement of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) and the International Criminal Court (ICC).

“The process of arrest should be tackled in court. The PNP is ready to cooperate with any investigation,” he said in a press briefing on Monday.

Marcos, who heads the Senate committee on foreign relations, said she would invite key officials from the  Philippine National Police, Office for Transportation Security-Department of Transportation, Department of Justice, National Security Council, and Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines.

Last March 11, Duterte was served an arrest warrant by the ICC over alleged crimes against humanity committed during his administration’s brutal drug war.

Duterte is currently detained in The Hague, Netherlands. He attended his pre-trial hearing at the ICC via video call on March 14.
