MANILA, Philippines — Senator Christopher “Bong” Go and supporters of former President Rodrigo Duterte turned emotional during a prayer gathering for the former leader’s “health and safe return” to the country.
The “Bring PRRD Home” event was held in Liwasang Bonifacio in Manila on Saturday. Duterte is currently under the custody of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Netherlands.
He attended his pre-trial hearing for his crimes against humanity case last Friday, March 14. The former chief executive attended the hearing through video call due to his “debilitating medical issues, hard of hearing, and poor of sight,” according to his counsel.

During the prayer rally, Go said Duterte was “deprived of access to his regular medication.”
“Alam niyo ba? Hindi nga n’ya alam kung ano ‘yung gamot na iniinom niya. Binibigay sa kanya ng nurse niya. Anong gusto nilang gawin kay Tatay Digong (Duterte)?” he asked.
(Did you know that he did not know what medicine he was taking? The nurse is giving them to him. What do they want to do to Tatay Digong?)

“Kung kaya nilang ipadala si Tatay Digong doon, gawan niyo ng paraan kung paano siya ibabalik dito. Hindi naman tatakas si Tatay Digong. Nung Sabado, maraming nagpapayo sa kanya. Kami, sinabihan namin, ipagpaliban mo muna. Pero mas pinili niyang umuwi at harapin. Ibig sabihin nun, hindi tatakas si Tatay Digong,” he added.
(If they can bring Tatay Digong there, then they can also bring him back. He will not escape. Last Saturday, we advised him not to go home, but he decided to return and face it. It means we will not escape.)

Last March 11, Duterte was served an arrest warrant from the ICC for the crimes against humanity allegedly committed during his administration’s drug war.
Based on reports, Duterte’s war on drugs left at least 6,000 people dead; however, human rights groups reported that the number may have reached 20,000.
