MANILA, Philippines — “Mr. President Marcos, you will never be loved, especially to [by] us who are calling out Rody Duterte’s name. You will never be loved, Mr. Marcos.”

This was the message of Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte as he criticized the “illegal” arrest and detention of his father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, at the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) headquarters in The Hague, Netherlands.

Speaking at the 88th Araw ng Dabaw celebration in Davao City on Sunday, Mayor Duterte further took a jab at Marcos, invoking the martial law declared by his namesake.

“It seems to me the stories that I’ve heard about martial law and oppression are synonymous with the Marcos family name,” he said.

His remarks were followed by supporters chanting, “Marcos resign.”

“Aside from you not being loved by the people, all you have is the government resources and your term,” Mayor Duterte said.

“Beyond that, you are nothing,” he added.

INQUIRER.net sought a comment from the Palace regarding his tirades but is yet to receive a response.

The elder Duterte arrived in the Netherlands on Wednesday night (Manila time) and was turned over to the ICC Detention Center in Scheveningen, The Hague.
