MANILA, Philippines — Palace believes there is no need for the police and armed forces personnel to prove their loyalty to the current administration amid the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte.

This matter pertains to claims that some police and soldiers quit their posts to protest the apprehension of the former chief executive.

These allegations were belied by the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

At a briefing, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said:

“Loyalty check? Wala po. Wala po dahil kampante po ang pangulo na ang ginawa po naman ng administrasyon ay naaayon sa batas,” she said.

(Loyalty check? None. None because the president is confident that what the administration has done is in accordance with the law.)

Duterte was arrested under an ICC warrant for alleged crimes against humanity during his administration’s war on illegal drugs.

He is scheduled to make his first appearance at the ICC headquarters in The Hague on Friday at the Pre-Trial Chamber I.
