MANILA, Philippines — A Chinese man who caught the attention of authorities for kicking a cat which later died of its injuries is set to be deported for overstaying.

In a statement, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said that Jiang Shan was apprehended on March 10 in front of his residence in Barangay Palanan.

Immigration records showed that the 32-year-old Jiang arrived in the Philippines as a tourist in May 2023 but failed to extend his visa after it expired in September that same year.
