MANILA, Philippines — The Chinese national who gained online traction for allegedly kicking a cat to death, was apprehended by immigration officers in Makati City for overstaying, said the Bureau of Immigration (BI) on Thursday.
The BI identified the individual as Jiang Shan, 32, who was arrested in front of his residence in Barangay Palanan.
The BI said Jiang was found to have arrived in the country as a tourist in May 2023 and did not extend his visa since September 2023.
“Jiang was unable to present any documentation to the arresting agents. He was immediately taken into custody, booked, and transferred to the BI’s facility in Bicutan, Taguig, while he faces his deportation case,” the BI said.
In a news release, the BI identified Jiang as the Chinese man who went viral for the death of Ken, the community cat who was resting at the Ayala Triangle Park in Makati.
Jiang allegedly kicked Ken.
BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado then reminded foreign nationals to respect Philippine laws while in the country.
“Filipinos are known to be very hospitable to our guests,” said Viado.
“But guests should not come to our houses kicking our pets. His cruel action led to the BI conducting checks on his records, and now he’s detained to be deported,” he added.
