Sara Duterte arrives in Amsterdam amid father's ICC case

MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte arrived in Amsterdam on Thursday morning, Manila time, the Office of the Vice President (OVP) said.

According to the OVP, Duterte landed in Amsterdam at around 9:27 p.m. on Wednesday (4:27 a.m. Thursday, Manila time).

“Upon her arrival, VP Duterte was met with assistance from the Dutch Foreign Ministry and the Dutch National Police Corps,” the OVP said.

The OVP then said that Duterte is set to attend a series of meetings on Thursday while waiting for the chance to visit her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, who is currently under the custody of the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The Vice President’s office earlier said that Sara would be “meeting with lawyers and seeking access” to her father upon her arrival in The Hague, where the ICC is headquartered.

The ICC has taken custody of the elder Duterte after his arrest and transfer to The Hague for crimes against humanity he allegedly committed during his administration’s bloody war on drugs.

His infamous war on drugs left at least 6,000 people dead, according to official government data, while human rights groups estimate the toll to be at least 20,000.
