MANILA, Philippines — Five Chinese individuals were arrested on Wednesday early morning for kidnapping a fellow Chinese individual, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said.

One suspect was caught in an unspecified location in Pasay City, the NCRPO detailed in a report on Wednesday evening.

He was found allegedly in possession of an unregistered .38 caliber revolver loaded with five live rounds.

Meanwhile, the four other suspects attempted to flee aboard a vehicle, resulting in a pursuit, during which the suspects’ car struck and fatally injured a 27-year-old motorcycle rider.

The four suspects were then caught at a condominium near a mall complex also in Pasay City.

It was there that authorities discovered 152.4 grams of suspected ketamine valued at P761,000 and another .38 caliber revolver loaded with six live rounds.

The victim, a 32-year-old Chinese male, was rescued from the suspects, the NCRPO said.

The Metro Manila police did not detail when the five suspects supposedly kidnapped the victim but did say that they demanded P500,000 for his release.

According to the NCRPO, the victim’s friend reported the incident to the authorities, prompting the entrapment operation.

The suspects are now under the custody of the Pasay City Police Station.

They face a case for kidnapping for ransom, reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition in relation to the Omnibus Election Code, and violating the Dangerous Drugs Act.
