Indian national nabbed for using stolen motorcycle

MANILA, Philippines — Negros Oriental provincial police caught an Indian national using a stolen motorcycle in Tanjay City, the Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group (PNP HPG) announced.

According to the HPG report on Wednesday, the Central Visayas Regional Highway Patrol Unit flagged the motorcycle for traffic violations at 6:45 a.m. on March 4.

The driver was not wearing a helmet and failed to present valid registration documents, the HPG said.

The PNP’s highway unit then discovered the vehicle matched the description of a motorcycle that was reported stolen.

“Based sa impormasyong nakuha natin, ’yun (the motorcycle) daw ay ibinigay sa kanya or ipinahiram sa kanya ng kapwa din niyang foreigner,” HPG Spokesperson Lt. Nadame Malang said in an interview with reporters in Camp Crame on Wednesday.

(Based on the information we got, the motorcycle was supposedly given to him or allowed to be borrowed by him by a fellow foreigner.)

Malang added that the suspect was under the custody of the Negros Oriental Provincial Highway Patrol Team.

The HPG said the suspect will face a case for violating Presidential Decree No. 1612 or the Anti-Fencing Law, which penalizes the “profit by the effects of the crimes of robbery and theft.”
