A high ranking official from the International Labor Organization (ILO) commended Filipino migrant workers for the hard work they’ve shown all over the world and expressed her desire to enhance their protection. “I have not seen this culture of service in many countries I have visited,” said ILO Assistant Director General Manuela Tomei, who visited the Philippines to discuss the relevance of the ILO Domestic Workers Convention (189) and the Violence and Harassment Convention (190), which promotes furthering protection for all migrant workers against all forms of abuse and harassment. Tomei also shared her concerns about the abuse being done on overseas Filipino workers (OFW) in other countries where they are abandoned and harassed by their employers. Tomei commended the Philippine government for the continuous support it gives to OFW and their families. —JACOB LAZARO
