MANILA, Philippines — Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya paid a courtesy call on President Marcos on Wednesday in an apparent diplomatic push to shore up cooperation as US President-elect Donald Trump prepares to return to the White House.

“The Philippines is Japan’s very important partner in times of very unpredictable and severe strategic environment that we face now,” Kaneko said. Iwaya also met with Foreign Secretary Enrique Manalo, during which they agreed to continue to deepen cooperation in various fields. —Frances Mangosing
