MANILA, Philippines — A Chinese national wanted in Beijing for illegal gambling was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport last Saturday, January 11, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) reported on Tuesday.

BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado identified the suspect as 38-year-old Huang Sen, who was flagged by the bureau’s Interpol derogatory system during immigration processing.

“A red notice for Huang’s arrest was issued by Interpol Beijing on Dec. 4 last year at the request of the Chinese government,” Viado said in a statement.

Huang is set to be deported and blacklisted as an undesirable alien, the BI commissioner added.

BI Interpol Unit acting chief Peter de Guzman also disclosed that a warrant for Huang’s arrest was issued by the Luojiang district public security bureau in Deyang, China, on August 27, 2024.

According to De Guzman, Huang was linked to a massive gambling syndicate employing over 70,000 people.

“Chinese authorities have pinpointed Huang as the alleged head of the syndicate’s betting department,” the BI said in the statement.

The syndicate allegedly enticed over one million Chinese customers to gamble on its websites, amassing more than 700 billion yuan, or approximately $95 billion in bets.
