Vietnamese arrested for illegal medical practice

MANILA, Philippines — Authorities arrested last week a Vietnamese woman for the illegal practice of medicine after she was allegedly caught performing cosmetic procedures at a clinic in Mandaluyong City.

National Bureau of Investigation Director Jaime Santiago identified the woman as Trinh Thi Nguyen, or “Dr. Rosa,” who was supposedly offering procedures, such as eyelid surgery, vaginal tightening and botox, at the JK Beauty Clinic.

NBI agents were able to arrest Nguyen purportedly in the act of violating Republic Act No. 2383, or the Medical Act of 1959.

Santiago said that Nguyen was presented for inquest at the Mandaluyong City Prosecutor on Jan. 9. —Gillian Villanueva
