MANILA, Philippines — Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose Manuel Romualdez will attend US President Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20, on behalf of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Malacañang confirmed in a statement on Wednesday.

“The Palace confirms that the Secretary of State, on behalf of the Joint Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies, invited the Chiefs of Diplomatic Missions, along with their spouses, to represent their respective heads of state and their governments at the principal inaugural events,” Presidential Communication Office Secretary Cesar Chavez said.

“In this case, Ambassador Jose Manuel Romualdez will represent PBBM [President Bongbong Marcos] at the inauguration,” he added.

In a separate message to INQUIRER.net, Romualdez confirmed that he would be attending Trump’s inauguration.

Chavez added, however: “There is no confirmation regarding whether the president will visit the US to meet with President Trump in the early months of 2025.”

Last November 19, after Trump’s victory, Marcos called the US President to congratulate him, saying that he is looking forward to working with Trump “on a wide range of issues that will yield mutual benefits to two nations with deep ties, shared beliefs, common vision, and a long history of working together.”
