One of the two people rescued from a deadly plane crash on Sunday asked doctors what had happened for him to be hospitalized, with attending physicians saying it appeared as if he had no memory of the accident.

The male flight attendant survived as Jeju Air 7C 2216 crashed and ignited at Muan International Airport in South Jeolla Province at around 9 a.m., leaving 179 dead. Doctors at Mokpo Hankook Hospital asked him about his condition and he reportedly asked back, “What happened? How am I here?”

The flight attendant told doctors that the last thing he remembers is putting on a seatbelt before the landing, thinking the plane had almost landed. He said he has no recollection of anything that happened afterward.

The flight attendant was stationed to serve passengers near the back of the plane, and sustained injuries to his left shoulder and head in the crash. Another female survivor of the plane is currently being treated at the same hospital.
