MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Danish embassy in Manila have agreed to elevate the education and training of Filipino nurses who wish to work in Denmark.

Migrant Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac signed on Monday a Joint Declaration of Intent (JDI) with Danish Ambassador Franz Michael Skjold Meldin in Makati City.

“The JDI will ensure adequate welfare and social protection for Filipino healthcare workers in Denmark. Both countries have agreed to provide resources, legal remedies, and social benefits to promote workers’ well-being and safeguard their rights during their employment,” it added.

According to the DMW, the MOU will “solidify the partnership and facilitate future collaborations in healthcare training and recruitment.” The signing was witnessed by Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen, the first foreign minister from Denmark to visit the country in 25 years. —Jacob Lazaro
