MANILA, Philippines — INQUIRER.net data analytics manager Monica Baylon-Solideo was selected by the International News Media Association (INMA) to receive its Elevate Scholarship.

The scholarship aims to give recipients news industry business fundamentals through a year-long membership in the international association and free access to three INMA master classes in 2025.

Baylon-Solideo was named among 50 early- to mid-level media executives chosen for the program out of 397 applicants from 83 countries.

The Elevate Scholarship caters to “historically underrepresented and disadvantaged” groups based on access to higher education, ages, disabilities, ethnicities, genders, religions, and sexual orientations, according to INMA.

Baylon-Solideo was the only recipient selected from the Philippines.

Media executives from the United States secured seven spots in the program, the most for all nations on the list. The United States is followed by India with six. The United Kingdom and Brazil have five each while Nigeria has four.

Bangladesh, Canada, Germany, Kenya, and South Africa each clinched two spots in the program.

Like the Philippines, Argentina, Indonesia, Nepal, the Netherlands, Palestine, Poland, Serbia, Somalia, Sweden, Uganda, Ukraine, and Zimbabwe each has one recipient of the Elevate Scholarship.

“INMA is proud to continue to champion the inclusion and growth of underrepresented professionals in the news media industry,” said Earl Wilkinson, the association’s executive director and chief executive officer.

“The news industry is stronger when we include perspectives that represent the communities we serve, engendering audience trust and growth,” he added.
