Masungi project chosen to be part of 2025 international innovation expo

MANILA, Philippines — Organizers of the World Exposition selected a project by the Masungi Georeserve Foundation (MGF) to be shared at its 2025 convention to be held in Osaka City, Japan.

Masungi’s “Restoring Forgotten Watersheds Through Youth-Led Movements” was awarded as a “Best Practice”, selected based on “certainty of impact, potential for regional development, and contribution to a better future.”

The project was described as a “youth-led initiative in collaboration with various stakeholders to address biodiversity crises, climate change, and flood issues through forest restoration activities in the Philippines.”

In a statement on Thursday, the foundation said, “Masungi’s watershed restoration initiative was chosen for its outstanding contributions to rehabilitating degraded watersheds, empowering communities, and championing youth leadership in environmental conservation.”

“This recognition aligns with the Expo’s vision of inspiring actionable solutions for a resilient planet,” it added.

MGF’s project was the only Philippine entry and the only Southeast Asian entry on the organizers’ shortlist of 25 “Best Practices” from all over the world, which will be displayed at the exposition.

Themed “Designing Future Society for Our Lives”, World Expo 2025 will run from April 13 to October 13, 2025, expecting participants from 161 countries.

MGF is a non-profit organization preserving the Masungi karst ecosystem in the forests of Baras town in Rizal province.
