2 Filipinos nabbed in Macau on drug charges

MANILA, Philippines—Two Filipinos, a man and a woman, have been arrested by the authorities in Macau for alleged drug trafficking, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Friday.

Citing a report from the Philippine Consulate General in Macau, the foreign office said the two were apprehended last February 1 in an apartment with 46 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride, popularly known as shabu in the Philippines.

The drugs had an estimated street value of 90,000 patacas (US$11,392.405). Several drug implements  were also found in the apartment.

A suspected buyer, also a Filipino, was also brought in for questioning.

The DFA said consulate officials extended assistance to the Filipinos to ensure that their rights were  respected and the officials were coordinating with Macau authorities on the matter.
