UP is top Philippine university in Asia, says QS rankings 2025

MANILA, Philippines — The University of the Philippines (UP) was named the country’s top university in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Asia University Rankings 2025.

According to QS, UP ranked the highest among Philippine universities in its latest assessment, having taken the 20th spot out of 196 universities in Southeast Asia and 86th spot out of 984 in Asia overall.

However, UP’s spot in the QS Asia University Rankings 2025 is a slip from its placement last year – at 78th out of 855 universities in Asia.

The same rankings, which was released November 6, showed Ateneo de Manila University at 142nd; De La Salle University at 163rd; and University of Santo Tomas at 181st.

Other Philippine universities ranked in the 2025 QS Asia University assessment are:

  • Adamson University (Manila, Metro Manila) – 411st to 420th
  • University of San Carlos (Cebu City, Cebu) – 481st to 490th
  • Polytechnic University of the Philippines (Manila, Metro Manila) – 541st to 560th
  • Mapua University (Manila, Metro Manila) – 561st to 580th
  • Silliman University (Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental) – 601st to 620th
  • Far Eastern University (Manila, Metro Manila) – 681st to 700th

Meanwhile, QS said the Top 10 Southeast Asia Universities are:

  • Universiti Putra Malaysia (Serdang, Malaysia)

  • Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (Skudai, Malaysia)
  • Taylor’s University (Subang Jaya, Malaysia)
  • Universiti Sains Malaysia (Gelugor, Malaysia)
  • UCSI University (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia)
  • Universitas Indonesia (Depok, Indonesia)

Further, QS, which “offers unrivaled data, expertise, and solutions for the global higher education sector,” also said that in all of Asia, the Top 10 universities are:

  • Peking University (Beijing, China)
  • The University of Hong Kong (Hong Kong Special Administrative Region)
  • National University of Singapore (Singapore)
  • Nanyang Technological University (Singapore)
  • Fudan University (Shanghai, China)
  • The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Hong Kong Special Administrative Region)
  • Tsinghua University (Beijing, China)
  • Zhejiang University (Hangzhou, China)
  • Yonsei University (Seoul, South Korea)
  • City University of Hong Kong (Hong Kong Special Administrative Region)

A QS assessment released in June 2024 placed UP at 336th out of 1,500 universities worldwide.

A university’s academic reputation, international research network, learning experience and graduate employability were among the criteria QS assessed to rank the institutions.
