Japanese man arrested for alleged abuse of live-in partner

MANILA, Philippines — A 34-year-old Japanese was arrested in Parañaque City for alleged physical and emotional abuse of his live-in partner, the Southern Police District (SPD) said on Wednesday.

In a statement, SPD identified the suspect as alias “Lakas Tama,” who was reported by his live-in partner at the Parañaque City Police Station Women’s Desk around 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday.

The victim also claimed that the suspect had threatened her with a firearm.

SPD said Parañaque Intelligence Section personnel responded to her complaint and apprehended the suspect on the same day.

Following the operation, authorities revealed they confiscated an Astra Unceta caliber 6.35 (.25) loaded with seven live ammunition, an Ingram M11 caliber 9mm with two extended magazines loaded with 13 live ammunition, and a 9mm caliber pistol with one inserted magazine.

All of the firearms had no documentation, the SPD said.

The suspect is now under police custody and will face complaints for grave threat or violation of Republic Act (RA) 9262 or the Anti-Violence against Women and their Children Act of 2004, and RA 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
