MANILA, Philippines — Dismissed Bamban mayor Alice Guo once again dismissed allegations that she is a foreign agent planted in the Philippines, alleging that self-confessed Chinese spy She Zhijiang only wants to benefit from her rising “media mileage.”

In a documentary released by Al Jazeera, She confessed that there are Chinese spies abound in the Philippines like him who are members of the Chinese Ministry of State Security.

Among them is Guo Hua Ping, which is believed to be Guo’s Chinese name.

The documentary also showed a Chinese ID with what appears to be a picture of a younger Guo. Her address in Fujian turned out to be the local office of the Chinese Communist Party.

“I am not a spy,” said Guo in Filipino when was asked by Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada during the hearing of the Senate committee on women on Tuesday.

Estrada, however, was not satisfied with Guo’s answer, pressing her to answer why She mentioned her name — of all the names he could’ve mentioned.

“Maybe he just wants my media mileage because right now, my media mileage is very high,” said Guo in straight Filipino.

Guo could not answer what She’s motive was in terms of naming her as a Chinese spy. The dismissed Bamban mayor then took the opportunity to appeal to the Philippine government to invite She, even in a virtual meeting, to disclose the truth.

In a separate interview with the Senate panel, Chinese national Wang Fu Gui, a close friend and former cellmate of She, said Guo “was a Chinese spy, but “not a special one.”

In the interview, Wang was asked how he came to the conclusion that Guo is a spy.

“The content of the declassified file kept by Mr. She is large and I only have declassified a portion under his authorization. She was a spy, but not a special one. It just happens there is a copy of her state security background there,” said Wang.

“And her situation with Mr. She has a lot of similarities. That’s all I can say, because I’m not Mr. She himself, and according to my agreement with him, I can only reveal so much, sorry,” he added.

Wang alleged that Guo’s campaign to become Bamban town’s mayor itself was arranged by Chinese state security.
