MANILA, Philippines—The Philippine National Police will remember Filipino security forces who joined the peacekeeping force as the world celebrates the International Day of United Peacekeepers on Sunday.
“Since 1992, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has been sending its peacekeeping contingents to UN peacekeeping operations and missions, first in Cambodia and subsequently in other countries torn by conflict to provide services and assistance,” said PNP spokesman Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz, Jr.
“Unfortunately, some PNP peacekeepers offered extreme sacrifice while serving in their peacekeeping missions,” Cruz said.
He said Sunday’s ceremony in Camp Crame is dedicated to those who served and continue to serve in the UN peacekeeping operations.
“In honor to their sacrifice and courage in their missions, AFP and PNP personnel and civilian volunteers who have served in various UN peacekeeping operations will be awarded letters of commendation,” Cruz said.
