MANILA, Philippines — The custody of Shiela Guo, who was earlier identified as the sister of former mayor Alice Guo, has been transferred from the Senate to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), Immigration spokesperson Dana Sandoval said on Wednesday.

During the Senate committee on women’s hearing on Alice’s ties to Philippine offshore gaming operators on Tuesday, Sen. Risa Hontiveros moved to lift the contempt order against Shiela, also known as Chinese Zhang Mier.

Hontiveros instructed the Office of the Sergeant at Arms to transfer Shiela’s custody to the Bureau of Immigration (BI), in compliance with the mission order issued against her.

But in a Viber message sent to INQUIRER.net, Sandoval said Shiela’s custody has been transferred to the NBI for security reasons.

“Yes po, with NBI,” she said, adding Shiela’s pending local cases as another reason for her transfer.

Despite the transfer, Sandoval said Shiela’s legal custody remains under the BI.

“Legal custody remains with BI. NBI has better facilities for security reasons,” Sandoval said.
