DMW: Pinoys in Lebanon safe despite conflict

MANILA, Philippines — No Filipino casualties have been reported in Lebanon as the war between Israeli forces and the Islamic group Hezbollah continues to escalate, the top official of the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said on Tuesday.

“We hope it stays that way and for the situation to improve,” Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said in a GMA TV interview.

According to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), there are over 11,000 Filipinos living in Lebanon, mostly in Beirut.

“We join the DFA and the [Philippine] embassy in Beirut in the call for our fellow Filipinos to come home while the airports are still open,” Cacdac said. —Jacob Lazaro
