Alice Guo seeks Abalos’ help over death threat before leaving Indonesia

MANILA, Philippines — Dismissed Bamban Mayor Alice Guo sought help from Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos Jr. regarding a “death threat” just hours before they boarded a flight back to the Philippines from Indonesia.

Guo told Abalos about the threat to her life on the sidelines of a quick meeting with Philippine and Indonesian authorities on Thursday afternoon.

“Sec., patulong, may death threat po kasi ako (Secretary, help me, there’s a death threat against me),” Guo can be heard saying in the livestream video on Abalos’ Facebook page.

Abalos replied, “‘Di bale, basta importante (Never mind, what’s important is)…” The audio of the video was then cut off.

He could be heard speaking again, telling Guo, “Kaya nga kumuha na kami ng private plane dito (That’s why we already arranged for a private plane here).”

Abalos, Philippine National Police Chief General Rommel Marbil, and personnel from the Bureau of Immigration and the National Bureau of Immigration arrived in Jakarta on Thursday morning to retrieve Guo.

The PNP said they were already on their way back to the Philippines as of 8 p.m. and may arrive in Manila around midnight.

Guo was arrested in Jakarta, Indonesia, around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 4.

The former mayor faces charges of qualified human trafficking and money laundering, and she is also wanted by the Senate for failing to attend its hearings.
