MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. said he is looking at bolstering the country’s ties with Cambodia as part of the Philippines’ efforts to boost partnerships with nations across the globe.
Marcos made the pronouncement during a meeting with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Sok Chenda Sophea in Malacañang on Tuesday afternoon.
In welcoming Sok, Marcos stressed the importance of continuous dialogues and cooperation with Cambodia and other member-states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean).
“I hope we can continue this. We will foster this relationship and continue to improve the relationship that we have had for many, many years,” Marcos said.
He reiterated that the Philippines continues to undertake partnerships and cooperation extending to other allied states across the globe.
Sok is in the country to co-chair the 4th Meeting of the Cambodia-Philippines Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation in the Philippines at the invitation of Foreign Affairs Sec. Enrique Manalo.
According to the Presidential Communications Office, part of the meeting’s agenda is to assess the progress in implementing the agreements reached by the two countries during the 3rd Meeting of the Cambodia-Philippines JCBC in December 2021.
