Brazilian foreign minister to visit PH, first time in 80 years

MANILA, Philippines — Brazil’s Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira will visit the Philippines on August 23, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA)  confirmed on Wednesday.

The DFA noted that Vieira’s visit will mark the first time a Brazilian foreign minister has come to the Philippines since the establishment of diplomatic relations nearly 80 years ago.

In a statement, the DFA announced that Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo will host Minister Vieira and his delegation for a bilateral meeting.

The foreign affairs officials are expected to discuss and assess the current state of relations between the two nations, with the aim of advancing their bilateral relationship.

“Secretary Manalo and Minister Vieira are expected to exchange views on a range of issues including trade and investments, technical cooperation, as well as cooperation in agriculture, defense, education, and in the multilateral arena. Among the agreements slated to be signed during the visit cover technical cooperation, cooperation in the peaceful uses of outer space, and education,” said DFA.
