MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine government, through the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said it is closely monitoring the situation in Bangladesh amid political demonstrations and civil unrest in the country.
In a statement on Tuesday, DFA labelled the situation in the country as “developing.”
“The Philippines calls for the peaceful and orderly transition of power in the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, following the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on August 5, 2024,” said DFA.

“Since August 2, 2024, the Philippine government, as recommended by the Philippine Embassy in Dhaka, has raised Alert Level 1 in Bangladesh,” it added.
According to the DFA, under Alert Level 1, all Filipinos are urged to remain indoors and to regularly monitor the situation “during this period of transition.”
“The Philippine Embassy in Dhaka and the entire government stand ready to assist Filipinos affected by the on-going political developments in the country. The Philippines conveys its solidarity with the people of Bangladesh and commits to efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability in Bangladesh,” DFA concluded.
